A statue of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein holding hands has unexpectedly appeared in Washington, DC this week, drawing both shock and curiosity.
The 12-foot sculpture, made from materials like wire, wood, foam, and resin, shows the former US president alongside the late convicted sex offender. Both are depicted smiling warmly at each other while appearing to walk toward the Washington Monument.
The bizarre piece popped up early on September 23 to coincide with Friendship Month, and organizers said it would remain on display until September 27 before being removed.
According to The Independent, the mysterious group behind the installation, known only as The Secret Handshake, said the artwork was intended to ‘celebrate the friendship of these real men’.
Not surprisingly, the display drew a response from the White House, which released a statement condemning the stunt.
“Liberals are free to waste their money however they see fit – but it’s not news that Epstein knew Donald Trump, because Donald Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep,” the official statement read.
“Democrats, the media, and the organisation that’s wasting their money on this statue knew about Epstein and his victims for years and did nothing to help them while President Trump was calling for transparency, and is now delivering on it with thousands of pages of documents,” the statement continued.
“There’s very few people who have gone on the record and called Trump one of his good friends.”
Beside the figures are three plaques, two of which reportedly contain excerpts from a 50th birthday letter that Trump is said to have written to Epstein back in the early 2000s.
Earlier this month, the House Oversight Committee made a copy of that letter public. In response, Trump’s legal team launched a $10 billion lawsuit, insisting that the letter doesn’t exist at all.
On Reddit, users reacted to the statue with a mix of humor and disbelief. One person wrote: “Whoever did this deserves every medal, award, and prize check in existence. They have won everything.”
“This is high caliber ultimate trolling right here. Take a note guys”, “When this is taken down, we should all scream about removing history, yeah?” and “Whoever spent their time, energy, and money to create this and pull off this stunt is a TRUE MF PATRIOT,” were among the other comments shared online.
Historically, Trump and Epstein, who died in prison six years ago, were known to be close friends until their falling out, which was reportedly sparked after Epstein hired away one of Trump’s employees.
When the so-called “Epstein Files” were released by the FBI, many expected to see a client list naming high-profile individuals. To the surprise of many, including Elon Musk, no such list appeared, and Trump’s name was not included in any criminal records.
